A Walk Down Memory Lane

There's a new historic venture where one can walk down the path back in time. Its the new Indiana Experience at the Indiana Historical Society downtown Indianapolis. The first room to vist is a 1924 garage in Hartfrd City,Indiana, designed from an original photograph. The owner, and his daughter, chat up the visitors and the daughter is proud of being the first woman in town to be able to rive a car. An ad is handed out sellng a car for $50. Wow, at those prices give me 2!

Next, there's a room that looks like a classy joint where a piano stands and a gentleman sings Cole Porter songs. Those were the good old days.

Next, there's a 1945 grocery store in Terre Haute, Indiana...definitely not Kroger or Marsh, but prices were very low...one thing caught my eye...yes, a loaf of bread was 10 cents but it was a very small loaf of bread, about the sice of a brick. So, I'm not sure how far a loaf of bread went back thenwith a family. I met a nice lady who said she was a single mom working at th local factor and raising 2 teenage daughters. She talked of her Victory Garden and how our men were fighting over seas, while the women took their jobs to support their families.

Upstair, I happened upon an Old Volin Shop downtown Indy 1914. One woman told me to make sure and visit the honey exhibit at the state fair and went on about all the activities taking place at the fair that day. The owner wa teaching a young lady how to playthe violin.

A group of african american women were dressed in costumes and singing spirituals and familiar music of their day, and Abraham Lincoln waled the halls greeting people with his smile and tip of the hat.

There was also a lab I took part inthat show us how to restore old documents. we had the opprtunity to fix a rip in an evelope the same way thelab would fix a historic document.

History is not a thing of te past but a door of opportunity to the futue.
